Please submit a question to the link above asking the superintendent for answers regarding the Reduction In Force (cuts) that are proposed for next year. Ask them to justify their decisions and attempts to eliminate teaching positions from the Salem Keizer School District

During the previous, historically large, budget cuts in 2011 to 2012, the district oversaw the elimination of 21% of licensed fte,  and 5.6% of administrative fte, while increasing classified/other fte by 5.8%.  Some would predict then that over the intervening 11 years, as licensed staff was the largest cut back in 2011, that they would see the largest growth in our district since then.  Unfortunately, that would be an incorrect prediction.  Compared to 2011, 2023 staff levels in these categories have increased by the following percentages:  Licensed: +6.7%. Admin: +20%. Classified/other: +38%.  Now that the cuts for next year have been proposed by the Superintendent we can all clearly see a pattern emerging.  Compared to 2023 fte levels, the proposed cuts are:  Licensed: a 9.3% decrease.  Admin: a 7.8% decrease.  Classified: a 5.4% decrease.  Only one conclusion can reasonably be reached:  Over the past decade the district has engaged in a systematic and coordinated reduction of licensed staffing positions proportionally in Salem Keizer, giving preference instead to creating and maintaining administrative and classified fte levels.  Can you explain your justifications for this troubling long-term trend?
